OLED, QLED, 4K, 8K& Few More
The screen market today is full of abbreviations, terms, and numbers that stand for certain TV features. Here is a brief on the trending terminologies.
Flat Screens: The Revolution of Today’s Entertainment
The world has started a new era by introducing Flat screens. Where the boxed shape TV had been replaced with an LCD (Liquid-Crystal Display). It functions with thin strips of backlights, allowing the television to become wider and thinner than ever.
The LCD screen is considered the introduction to LED screens, which consist of tiny cells that perform light and then shape a view.
LED (Light-Emitting Diode) | A display that uses tiny colorful cells as a direct backlight of compounds and a set of layers to perform colorful views. |
OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) | A display that uses organic compounds that perform deep black to perform colorful, realistic views. This display is uniquely thin. |
QLED (Quantum Dot Light-Emitting Diode) | An LED display with a layer of Quantum dots to enhance the quality and brightness of colors. |
Nano Cell | An LED display that uses nano-sized pixels that reduce the unwanted brightness of whites resulting in a pure, colorful view experience. |
QNED (Quantum Nano Emitting Diode) | A display that gathers OLED’s black depth & Nano Cell’s color purity with some brightness adjustments that are adaptable to the surrounding area lightning. |
Why The Black Color is so Important?
It is effortless to display infinite bright hues using today’s technology. But the black color is the one with the challenge. To show black on the screen, the targeted pixel cell blocks out its light. However, some light leeks from the neighbor cell causing an interruption to the human eyes and disrupting the experience.
This phenomenon is not only affecting solid dark scenes. You need the perfect-deep black to show a night sky with tiny glows of the stars or the dark shadow on the edge of bright objects.
It is a big matter for TV developers to find the “perfect black” and deliver a cinematic experience. TV incorporations might
define their dictionaries, but all have the same objective:
picture-perfect, vivid views.
What About Resolution?
The approximate quantity of pixels built into the display represents the resolution. It is most likely to shorten it into the rows number only since Hight X width ratio is fixed on all screens. The minimum resolution available in the market today is 720p, while 8K is the maximum. The TV corporations also call every resolution by a name. Look at this table to learn the match:
HDTV (High-Definition Television)
| FHDTV (Full High-Definition Television) |
QHD (Quad High-Definition Television)
UHDTV (Ultra High-Definition Television) |
A higher resolution television brings higher quality pictures. However, you won’t need a massive resolution on a screen that is close to your eyes like mobiles & tablets. This rule completely breaks out by the law of gaming and computing use.
Wide screens are perfect for computer use and gaming. One wide screen can replace 2 regular ratio screens. The curved design is crafted specially to make an immersive gaming experience.
TV Operating System (TV OS)
TV OS is the software that boots the smart TV so the user can access, control, and manage the content displayed on the screen.
Common TV Operating Systems
HDR Formats
Smart TVs rely on the internet when playing content or installing apps. On the other hand, TVs with operating systems have a built-in platform and a user interface. Here are more details:

The Most Popular Formats
TV screens are most likely to have one or more of these formats: Dolby Vision, HDR, HDR 10, HDR 10+, and more...
Some other features make a massive difference in your experience. For example, if you are used to the luxury of the voice control or the universal remote control, you won’t want to downgrade.
Frequency & Refresh Rate
A display's refresh rate is the number of picture frames appearing on the screen in a single second. For example, a 60Hz display will update the screen to 60 frames per second or (fps).
