Before Cooling Food
Clean, elegant packages don’t necessarily mean that food will last long in them. Here are the 3 steps to do for fruits and vegetables:
Store produce in clear bags or airtight containers. | Dry produce to avoid growing bacteria on them. | Wash produce with running icy water to get rid of dirt. |
There are some exceptions regarding washing produce before cooling them. Mushrooms, for example, should be consumed immediately after washing. Moreover, it is illogical to prewash, then store the onion.
Herbs & Root Veggies
The best way to keep the root vegetables is to refrigerate them soaked in cool water. Do this with carrots, root beats, and celery. The same method can be used with herbs, put them in bouquets with stems soaked in water. Cover the upper leafy part softly with a clean plastic bag or keep it free.
Organizing The Fridge
Every type of food requires a certain temperature degree to stay at its optimum. Thankfully, fridges have been designed to hold up a specific cooling range in each area. Moreover, it makes it easier for you to make your shopping list for the next time. Find a suitable place for each type of food here.

Can They be Stored Together?
If you prefer fresh, cooled meat, fish, or poultry, or you tend to season them overnight, then you need to cool them away from produce as they cause spoiling and germination.
On the other hand, separate fruits from vegetables, and store each type individually. Apple, for example, tends to spread ethylene gas that quickens other produce to spoil. Otherwise, try storing apples in a separate bowl on the kitchen counter, or cooling them in a plastic bag.
Fridge’s Optimum Cooling Temp.
Neither you want the refrigerated grocery to frost unintentionally nor be contaminated in warm temperatures. Therefore, you must set up your fridge between (2ْ – 4ْ Celsius) or (35 – 40 Fahrenheit)
